I think it would be a good idea. Sometimes the answer to a question or a problem can be found by reading post about another distro. Also I think it would be a great place to compare and learn about other distros and what they have to offer.

I don't see it as a pressing need, but it might be nice for those moments when people may want to discuss the differences between Ubuntu and Debian/Gentoo/$distro here.

Anyway, certainly no objection on my part.

If I cared about Distro X, wouldn't I also be on the Distro X forum already?

What if distro X doesent have a good forum/community? We already talk about other distros here so if there is just a certain place for it, you wont have to see them if you dont want to ;)

What Stormy Eyes said. The best place to discuss distro X is usually in distro X's forum, or irc channel or mailing list if they don't have a good forum.

If it's some cross distro discussion like "Ubuntu vs distro X" or "Which debian derivative is best as a server?" then it should be on some general linux forum and not in a baised distro specific forum.

I'm not voting.

I don't think we need a forum for another forum... This is UBUNTUFORUMS.ORG not DISTROFORUMS.ORG. But, I could see making one.

Good point, though I am just the person who wants to talk about all technology related things on one forum. If I could only talk about ubuntu here, id spend much less time here.

Nah, I'll read about them on LinuxQuestions...let's keep this one Ubuntu only :)

That's Distro X's problem, not ours. If Ubuntu Geek wants to create a subforum for talk about other distros, that's his prerogative. He pays the bills for this forum, after all. I just think it's pointless to do so. ubuntuforums.org is about Ubuntu GNU/Linux, not Snugglycat Linux or Kissyface Linux.

I feel that, although this is a ubuntu forum, it's still linux, and as a sub-communtiy of the larger linux community, it makes sence.
I say yes.

I would say 'no'. Seems like it would just become an excuse for flames and ranting to me.

Instead of a forum for other distro talk we need a forum for "OSS talk". That would include other distros as well. Maybe the forum can be named as "General OSS/linux Chat". Similarly we can have a "Ubuntu Chat" and "Off the Wall". "Community Chat" will be redundant and should be closed in that case.
