I've been using ubuntu on a computer for the past few months, originally i installed from a 7.10 disc, and eventually upgraded to 8.04 LTS. although the upgrade worked, i was reinstalling ubuntu today, and found out that ubuntu 8.04 hangs, it won't boot, it won't verify the cd, and it won't install, no way no how. it always drops into an ash shell.

I noticed that once in a while after the upgrade it would 'fall back' to a smaller desktop, for no apparent reason, which was why i decided to reformat and reinstall. but now i have to reinstall from a 7.10 cd since the 8.04 LTS doesn't work at all.

FWIW I'm using an old All-in-wonder radeon 8500 graphic board. the CPU is a semptron 2500+
