I want a good dock for my hardy...for launching applications.....Not for hosting windows...
Please give me the installation steps too.......

AWN is working pretty well for me. Just go to Applications > Add/Remove and search for Avant Window Navigator. Check and apply. It'll install it for you. Pretty fast and simple.

I prefer cairo dock.

Installation notes on cairo dock in that article.

The awn version in the ubuntu repository is useless, there are no applets and installing them is a pain in the ***.

You can get the latest Cairo-dock release from this location

The plugins are also available from Berlois

It is available in deb and I used the deb installer

if you don't want your dock to act as a taskbar, choose Cairo-Dock or Kiba-Dock, as I think the other docks can't disable their taskbar. ;-)

It's been available in the awn-testing ppa / trunk for a while.

It's just a matter of removing the Launcher/Taskmanager and using simple-launcher applets instead.
