im trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 on my hp a1540n

http://www4.dealtime.com/xPF-Hewlett-Packard-HP-Pavilion-Media-Center-A1540n-PC

everything stock except the graphics card im using is a radeon x700 series

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1644509&Sku=TC3H-1034&SRCCODE=WEBSD&CMP=OTC-SMARTERDEALS

and after I do a clean install and reboot the machine the ubuntu logo comes up for about five minutes and then just goes to

"busybox v1.1.3 (debian 1:1.1.3-5ubuntu12) built-in shell (ash) nter 'help' for a list of built-in commands"

can anyone help me I really want to get into linux but this little snag is making that difficult.

You may need to boot into safe graphics mode to get around the problems you are facing. There are some other boot parameters that you may need to try, but as I don't have such a computer I am ignorant of the ones which might work. May I suggest a Google search on your precise computer, e.g., hp a1540n Ubuntu, and see what might come up, if searching the Forums does you no good.
