I have tried all ubuntu versions, found the Ubuntu with Gnome the best one, but since my Laptop is kind of slow, I choose to stick with Xubuntu.

I made a new install with alternate CD, with encrytion.

It mounts CD-s and USB sticks, but wont do anything with my Canon ixus I7 camera. Ubuntu worked fine! Not the case with Xubuntu.

This is a problem.

a) graphic program f-spot say - no camera detected!
b) no device is given to the camera so I can't do mount /dev/sdb1 or similar
c)lsusb still shows it:
Bus 004 Device 016: ID 04a9:3137 Canon, Inc.
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

now how can I mount it?

thanks!

Thank everybody for the quick response!

I can answer now the question myself.

Where f-spot failed, gThumb succeeded.

It started to download drivers and now my computer recognizes the camera.

So everybody who use Xubuntu and also want to watch pictures, install gThumb.

Still, there is no Icon of the Camera on Desktop, it could be useful, but at least now I get the pictures.

I was able to transfer the photos with gThumb, I got canon ixus 870 (eu).
