Hello everyone. I have given up on trying to get gDesklets to function. Is there any kind of WORKING alternative to gDesklets that I can use? Widgets are one of the few things that I miss from the Windows world. As always TIA!:D

Google Gadgets for Linux are now available at http://code.google.com/p/google-gadgets-for-linux/. However, it looks like for the moment you have to build from source - might be worth keeping an eye on this site (and possibly on www.getdeb.net) for a package specifically for Ubuntu.

Actually I've just noticed this link to https://launchpad.net/~googlegadgets/+archive
If you add the two lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list then run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get install google-gadgets then that should install it OK. I'm actually in the process of getting it now in Kubuntu KDE4 so I'll let you know how I get on.

Screenlets it what I would recommend. It's in the repositories, but not the latest version: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Screenlets+0.1.2?content=82586

Show your support for the developer (Whise), because he's about to abandon the project!

Couldn't get Google Gadgets to work in Kubuntu KDE4, but I installed the Ubuntu desktop and added Google Gadgets according to the guide at http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/06/introducing-official-google-gadgets-for.html and it works fine in Gnome.

You might also want to check out http://code.google.com/p/google-gadgets-for-linux/wiki/QuickStart which gives details of how to get the sidebar working as well
