[SOLVED] lost task bars how do I get them back?

Not sure what I have done but when I logged on tonight I do not get any panels (task bars) on the desktop. If I mount an external drive it shows but can not get the panels back.

I got exactly the same problem just now, I used E17 for a session then went back to Gnome and all my taskbars were gone.

I have found a solution that has worked for me, I think it crashed because I uninstalled evolution in Synaptic, but i solved this problem by simply running:

sudo apt-get install gnome-panel
