View Full Version : [xubuntu] [SOLVED] How do I lock down the desktop for my kids?

Thinking I would start early, I've set up Xubuntu on an old PC for my 6 year old son, and 1.5 year old daughter. However, with full control of the desktop, they are constantly deleting icons, panels, launchers, starting unexpected programs, etc...

Whenever that happens, XFCE "stops" managing the desktop, taking away the launchers to their programs I have created on the desktop (gCompris, Childsplay, Same Gnome), removing the background wallpaper (Spiderman) and so on.

Is there a way to set XFCE to lock the desktop, preventing the current user from modifying the desktop ? Or must I turn of XFCE and configure everything manually ?

Any advice on how best to approach this will be much appreciated.

I think one can enable kiosk mode, see http://wiki.xfce.org/howto/kiosk_mode and...

Thank you, that's perfect, saves me from constantly having to reset desktop settings and icons.

Cheers.
