64 bit heron. upgraded earlier today. was running 7.10 smooth as silk prior to upgrade.
now i am having some sound issues.
example:
-start the box.
-talk to people on pidgin, get normal sounds when messages are sent/recieved.
-start rhythmbox, play music.
-pidgin sound stops, even when music is stopped.
-quit rhythmbox. still no pidgin sound. no sound in youtube videos either. start tythmbox again... and it goes into the gray screen mode... which is where it has been since i started typing this.
and other... random things like this. a system restart ago, pidgin was playing sound but it was distorted. earlier youtube was randomly not playing sound.
prior to the upgrade, my system was incredibly stable.
edit: this time rhythmbox said "playback error: unknown playback error" or something completely uninformative like that.

edit 2: O WOW. this is new. i click on 'system' to restart the box again... and no menu shows up. its highlighted like it wants to open, but doesnt.
