Check by your clock-- you should have an icon from the update manager. Click on it and you'll get the updates window. At the top of that window should be a notice that a new release is available. Tell it to upgrade and it should put you at 7.10.

If there is no icon, go to your menu under system->administration and find update manager.

I believe all you have to do is install any security updates, and then there should be an option to upgrade to the newest version. You shouldn't need to wipe the system out (unless you want to).

Now if you only want to go from 7.04 to 7.10, that should do it. I would go right to Hardy Heron after 7.10. It's been rock solid for me.

You can't go directly from 7.04 to 8.04... you must take the 7.10 step in between first.

Nope.

You've got several options:

1) Open up Update Manager and hit "Check", it should announce that a new version is available at the top. This will download all the updates to bring you up to 7.10
2) Get hold of the 7.10 Alternate CD and put it in the drive. A message will show up saying that the CD contains packages you can use to do an upgrade.
3) Get the 7.10 LiveCD and do a reinstall over the top of your 7.04.

Whatever you do, back up your data first.
