I've got a Sony Vaio Fx-601, its a few years old business notebook (1.1Ghz Amd durion mobile processor, 256Mb ram,20Gb hard drive and ati mobile graphics).

At the moment its got xp installed (2002 edition), but its causing grief at the moment, with a few BSOD's, and ive been drawn to lloking at maybe installing linux.

So I downloaded Xubuntu and Kubuntu, it wont accept any of them (saying that the installer needs 256mb ram - its already got that?).

Im looking at doing a complete back up (including OS), wiping the hard drive and installing linux. At the moment im downloading Ubuntu, so im going to try and install this. Are there any things that i should know about before i install it?

Will i just be able to burn the ISO to a CD and run the installer straight from that?

Is there anyone out there running linux from this machie, or one similar?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly apprecieated, as a note, im a complete beginner (as you can probably tell)!

Thanks in advance!

You have to install with Xubuntu Alternate CD:
