I really am enjoying Ubuntu right now, and I need suggestions for what you guys think are necessary applications.

I have rhythmBox and picture viewers and such, anything else you guys absolutely need?

Also, I have a question about mounting a drive. I was adding music from a network drive and every time I click on the drive to access it, Ubuntu would place an icon on my desktop to that drive. How do I stop this from happening?

What do you like to do with your computer?

Audio, video, pictures, pretty much everything but games. I guess my question is, what is the best application for each of the most popular types. (Since there are a lot and I haven't experienced them yet.)

I like rhythmbox for a random song playing but totem for a specific file of multiple songs or media, smplayer in add remove is good for visual dvd or saved files it will start where you left off and on streamed files that Mplayer and totem wont let you skip around; smplayer does. Sound converter is a good way of converting. Gnomedo is a good search gui for stuff on your computer much better than tracker for me. Ubuntu tweak is a good way access to stuff you want to tweak without searching around.
