Alright first off Im useing Ubuntu 8.04 this is my first time useing any distro of linux. It was an easy install and everything came togather without a hitch execpt for my sound.

I have a creative sb x-fi extreme gamer sound card, creative made a linux driver for it and Im trying to install it but haveing some difficulty.

The website i got it from was http://opensource.creative.com/soundcard.html

What I have done so far is first i installed Alsa from the package manager, then i created a folder in the home folder called "Videocard" then i unpacked the download and placed it in the Videocard folder.

The instructions simply say to "run ./installer as root in the terminal" so thats what i did, i typed

cd Videocard
sudo ./installer

It starts to install but then I get this error :

Installation is in progress. Please wait...
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.
make: *** [all] Error 2
make: *** [install] Error 2
Installation Unsuccessful

I have no idea what to do, if anyone has already installed this or knows how to please help me out.
