I've been looking at these for a few weeks now and I really want one! Although they're never a replacement for a main PC, for a computer to have on the move they look ideal - just enough power to do some web browsing, checking of email and maybe even a little python programming.

All for £200!

My only gripes with it is that although the battery life is good... its not exceptional. Also the cost of a 8Gb flash stick to bring the memory up to 10Gb pushes the price up by 10%.

What are other peoples experiences with them? I quite like the idea of getting a 3G card for full mobile connectivity, but I don't even know if they are compatible with linux! (I've seen it hinted somewhere that they are).

I would suggest holding off for a while yet, there are many Eee competitiors coming to market this summer.

Go for it ! My girl friend has one. They run Xandros Linux and you have some limited support. The wireless card is very good and simple to use. You start in the default mode. Witch is easy mode but with a couple commands you have a full working desktop and package manager so you can do what you like with it. You could put Xubuntu on it too. I think its a good deal.

Perhaps not such a good deal as the recently announced Acer Aspire One, much better Atom CPU, more storage (8gb), twin memory card slots one with SDHC support, bigger 1024x600 screen and £200 which is the same as the cheapest but much lower spec Eee701 2g

Yeah, I just saw the atom on the other thread...

I'll post on there instead to save having millions of threads on the same thing!
