any advice for someone on a fixed budget trying to purchase a discounted laptop and install Ubuntu or Xubuntu? I'm looking for a decently priced laptop (so if you have one just lying around unused let me know and if Linux is already installed that's all the more better)...something around $400 or less which runs faster than my old Dell CJ300 from 2003, I'd like it more if the browser didn't lag since I'm a writer and online enthusiast...thanks

looking at newegg it is just eeePCs which arent bad but a little small. I personally cant stand the keyboard. If you need one now you would probably be looking at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115463.

If however you can wait I would go for one of the new laptops coming with the atom processors. This would probably be end of the summer.

I've never heard of a Dell CJ300. Can't find one online either. What are the guts like?

Sure, the cheapest one's $600, but from a company that uses Ubuntu as its sole OS, expect great support.

I have read reviews and people post about System76's products, and many say they've never regretted spending their money.

It's compatible fully with Ubuntu, and now it comes with Hardy preinstalled, a perfect time to go buy!
