PS3 Media server?

What would it take to allow my laptop (main computer) to serve music, pictures, and videos to my PS3, as well as - if possible - transcode them on the fly, so the PS3 can understand them?

quick update, i am installing the mythtv master backend, and seeing if that will work to serve up my media to the upnp client of the PS3.

I use Mediatomb to serve files for my ps3 Works great, however, setting it up to transcode can be a pain.
