Hello, I have run out of ideas and need community support. I have been running ubuntu since 6.06 on my home server and my recent machine upgrade has caused the system to randomly (after 2-6 hours) freeze. The screen shows the last X11 frame but the system is unusable. (ssh doesn't work either)
Recently I upgraded my server hardware (from an AMD athlon system ) to:
Intel Q9450 (quad-core 12MB Core 2)
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H (with Nvidia GeoForce 7100 Video and nForce 630i chipset)
On this system I have apache, mysql, nfs, samba and a custom tvcapturing program that I wrote (captures frames from tvtime and audio)
During this upgrade I have replaced the motherboard three times due to memtest+86 failing constantly (and the machine rebooting by itself). The current motherboard has successfully passed memtest+86 for two nights so I feel comfortable the memory is okay (and the cpu cache for that matter!)
Basically I feel that the current problem is NOT a hardware one (anymore), but in fact a software one. I have run cpuburn (4 processes) for over an hour without a glitch. Additionally I have tested it with three power supplies and instead of restarting (a common sign of bad ram or PSU) the system just freezes instead, making me feel it's a linux kernel/driver issue. I would try an older kernel but I am sure most of my hardware is unsupported.
- I have removed my additional usb card (my usb kvm does not like the nForce usb, a common but annoying problem), system still hangs
- I have disabled compiz, system still hangs
- I have swapped the tv-tuner card, system still hangs
- I have used the vesa driver with xawtv, system still hangs
- I have unplugged my iguanaIR usb device, system still hangs
I do not know what else to do. I tail -f /var/log/messages and see nothing of interest before the system crashes. Is there anything I can do to help narrow down what's wrong?

(PS. my network led indicator acts strangely during these system hangs. sometimes after a system hang the data indicator is blinking non-stop till a restart... I guess I will try another network card after the next crash too.)
