Hallo

5 Weeks ago I migrated from Windows to Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, so I am new to Ubuntu and Linux. I admire the speed with which system updates are provided. According to Grub I now have 3 Kernels. Question do I need all 3 and how can I find and delete those that I no longer require ?

I want to avoid cluttering up my disc with kernels that are no longer needed. Could imagine a policy to keep a previous stable version as reserve and the latest version. Comments to the prudence of my idea welcome!

Thanks in advance

The following thread (see post 3) deals with the Grub Menu Display but also briefly addresses the issue of removing old kernels:

This thread deals more directly with removing old kernels:

As to my personal practice, I remove all but the current kernel, although I always have a current and reliable drive image that can be restored if anything goes wrong. Those new to Linux are probably best advised to keep at least one old kernel as a safety net.
