I am trying to install Kubuntu 8.04 DT i386 on a Gateway GP71 that has an Intel P3-800 and 512M of ram and a 15G hd. The video is an Intel chip 82810E. When I first boot up the cd and I start the install mode, the install window looks ok but the background around it/the rest of the desktop looks like snow from a tv picture. The install goes ok but when finished and the computer reboots, the grub menu comes up and then the screen blanks the cursor blinks in the upper left hand corner of the screen and that's it. My feeling is that the video driver is not installing correctly but with no way to get into linux I am at a loss as what to do. Any ideas? Is there some way to get to a command line?

thanks,
charles....

You could try an "anternative" installation, usually available on a live CD, or you can burn a CD with just that kind of installer on it.
