Anyone know if it is mandatory to upgrade the kernel. I am still using feisty 7.04 because that is the version that works with my laptop hardware.

I have the 2.6.20-15-generic kernel, I received update to upgrade to 2.6.20.16.28.1 from upgrade manager.

I have seen people loose their login screens and unable to boot because of kernel updates, Is it mandatory that I update? and Why?

Thanks

If you are satisfied with your current kernel, stay with it.
