I want to make the switch over to Ubuntu for my next desktop. I am quite new to this however. My question is, I was just going to buy a computer with no Operating System. Can I easily install Ubuntu after I get the computer or will it be a chore? Also, will everything work (mouse, keyboard, etc.)? Thanks for the help!

Any new hardware will do. Better an Nvidia card.

Installing Ubuntu is pretty easier, there are plenty how-to guides on the net. Here (http://www.fsckin.com/2007/09/28/how-to-install-gutsy-gibbon-a-21-step-guide-for-technical-support/) is one that can give you an idea of what you will be facing. If you know the brand of desktop you are planning on buying you can easily do a search online to see if there are any issues with that particular make and model.

You can't install Ubuntu on DOS. Go with the guide Partyboi2 linked to. To test your hardware run Ubuntu from cd.
