View Full Version : [gnome] menu bars are gone

both my menu bars are gone.the on at the top and the one at the bottom.
i can't access anny programs.
i have gnome with ubuntu 8. tried gnome failsafe but did niet help.
what can i do??

ps i start firefox by right klicking a html file and use the 'open with' option.

try alt+f2 and type
gnome-panel

alt+f2 will not do any thing. so i cant enter the command.

This was suggested:mv ~/.gnome2 ~/.gnome2_old

thats strange, alt-f2 should input a command prompt, well, do you have a way to open a terminal? can you open a file manager?

if you have access to a terminal, just type
gnome-panel

Since you can get to a terminal try adding a new user and see if they get built correctly. If so then check the hidden files with you yours.

how can i start a terminal than?
by clicking a folder on my desktop i can browse my system. can i find the terminal there? myeby in bin somewhere??

yes! i found gnome-terminal and will i was there clicked gnome-panel.
menu is back!!
thanks gues...
(and i will remember leave 1 terminal open always)

alright, no problem, im glad its working and i was able to help
you can even make a desktop icon for gnome terminal, so you can always open a terminal from the desktop
