View Full Version : [kubuntu] 8.04 - /dev/cdrom vanishes between boots

After upgrading to 8.04 I needed to manually add a symlink from /dev/scd0 to /dev/cdrom in order to get CD things to work. Something keeps removing the symlink either at system shutdown or startup, so I need to add it again whenever I power up the system. This is rather minor, but there's probably something slightly wrong somewhere.

You could try adding a symlink to /mount/cdrom instead?

But Grip (Gnome CD ripper frontend) defaults to /dev/cdrom for the CD drive and /etc/fstab comes with an entry for mounting /dev/cdrom to /media/cdrom0, which coupled with the absence (and automatic purge) of /dev/cdrom itself makes it look to my uneducated nostrils like there's an inconsistency somewhere in 8.04 fs and package configurations.

I think I'm having this same problem. But I might also be suffering from the known bug related to non-80pin PATA cables.
