Salutations, I figured the Community Chat would be the best place to post this.

I'm getting some work soon, which means I'll have some spending money after college expenses. One thing I've been wanting for a while is a good replacement for my television.

My room doesn't have much... room, and I figured my best choices would be either a flatscreen or a projector. After pondering it for a while, I'm pretty much sold on the idea of having a projector.

I'd like a projector that can support output from my PC (my 6800 has TV-Out), cable TV, and my game consoles if possible. I don't care much about resolution, 1024x768 would be great if possible (that's what I run my PC at), but if I can't get a reasonably-priced projector with that resolution, that's fine.

I'm pretty confused about the specs for projectors. I know what many of the words MEAN, but I'm not sure what they mean in context and comparison. I'm hoping someone who is tech-savvy in this regard can help recommend to me a reasonable-priced (less than $1000 if at all possible) projector that can handle PC, cable, and consoles (GameCube, Xbox, and the like), and a 1024x768 res for my PC would be fantastic! (Probably unrealistic, but one can dream.)

[By the way, I can wait a few months if something like that is expected to be coming out soon.]

projectors are pretty expensive, and if you get a cheap one, it will be low quality and most likely 800x600.

On the other hand, you can get a good, 24" 1920x1200 lcd for about 7-800 dollars with a coupon. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4221&link_number=

this doesnt have a tv tuner though, so maybe something like this which is 1280x768 and 26" http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/lcd_w2600?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~page=6&~tab=specstab#tabtop

i cant seem to find any coupons for it ATM, but google around for some or look on ebay.

I'm really into home theater. One of the nicest low-end projectors is just a hair above your price range, but you could hunt for a bargain. Take a look at the Panasonic AE700 (http://cgi.ebay.com/Panasonic-PT-AE700U-LCD-Home-Theater-Projector-PT-AE700_W0QQitemZ5821215737QQcategoryZ75418QQssPageN ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

I'd recommending jumping over to www.avsforums.com -- it's the best site on the `net for home theater.

Thanks for the help, and thanks for the forum :D I'll have to check it out.

I saw a cool 1080p projector, until I noticed the price... $10,000...

At work, we use the Christie P32GPS. Not sure it's what you're looking for, though. :P
