Okay, now I'm trying to install Ubuntu Linux 8.04 from the live CD.
I tried to boot to Live and I got a huge tower of "Not found"-esque results. Then it went to an unresponsive CLI.
Hell I doubt you could call it a CLI it was just a black screen with a blinking cursor.
I think it may be the hard drive.
After trying to simply "Install" from the CD main menu, I got some errors about "ata2" and then some write access(?) errors.
I'm letting it "perform maintenance."

You can run 8.04, but you7 have to install with the Alternate CD. Download from here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
Mark the box below the sign 'Start Download'
Follow this guide:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto?highlight=%28burn%29%7C%28
Do md5sum, burn at 4x or less. Good luck.

Did I answer a question of yours in a previous thread?

I'm waiting on the download still...
It's taking longer than eternity.
It says I should have it in an hour and a half...

Okay, well I don't know if I can double-post, but..
It appears to be the CD drive, I'll switch it later.
Maybe then I can get it to work.

Okay, dilemma: I don't have a spare CD drive to put in this thing.
So, I have a spare 1.44Mb floppy and the computer itself has like Windows 2000 or ME or something, or I could boot from the network?
I've heard of that method but have no clue how to.
Help appreciated x.x
