View Full Version : Why so few blueprints for intrepid?

I've been using Ubuntu since Hoary, and after every Ubuntu sprint, there were lots of exciting features to read about that were planned for the next release.

Since Lanchpad, in theory, blueprints are the place to read about the new proposed features.

For Intrepid, only 4 are listed (https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid).

Why is this? This is so un-Ubuntu like. Usually, their people submit too many blueprints.

1. Do they not know what to do with Intrepid still?
2. Are they deciding to be less transparent? (Ie... all there eggs are in the features they want to surprise the world with basket?)
3. Do they fear if they post features they will let us down?
4. Are the features all listed somewhere else and I just don't know about it?

This isn't a complaint about Ubuntu at all. I'm just trying to figure out what is going on. It's been part of my 6 month routine to get all psyched up reading about the new features for the next release after the latest UDS. :lolflag:

Before this UDS blueprints were submitted for launchpad and then fleshed out at UDS. This time the discussion happened first and the writing of specs is something that is happening right now, so there are no specs there because people are probably still writing them.

Thanks for clearing this up. This was a very helpful answer. So it is that Ubuntu is changing policy.

There are actually 15 specs, but strangely only 4 of these are visible as standard

That is strange. I had no idea launchpad could work like this.

Only the approved blueprints are shown by default.

what about the brainstorms or blueprints from the community?

were those discarded?

what about the brainstorms

Brainstorm ideas that are feasible need to be refined and developed into blueprints to gain traction. The most popular ones were discussed at the last UDS, but to become actionable, they need specification and workforce.

or blueprints from the community?

Which? As opposed to blueprints from whom? There's no such separation as blueprints from the community vs. blueprints from some other group (such as Canonical employees).

were those discarded?

Blueprints can't be discarded (except theoretically by the Launchpad sysadmins). Do you mean not approved? If so, we are not at a stage where blueprints have been finalized yet, so approvals are yet to come. All blueprints proposed for the release you are viewing are shown when you click "List all blueprints".
