View Full Version : [ubuntu] Can't get past language selection

I have a fairly new Dell Dimension that I no longer plan to use with Vista. I'm trying to make a Ubuntu based file server out of it.

I downloaded the Ubuntu 8.04 server edition CD for AMD64. My system has a Core2 Duo, so 64-bit OS should work.

I have a problem right at the Language Selection screen. The keyboard doesn't seem to work, and I can't get past that language selection, and it just sits there forever.

I tried two different USB keyboards, on every single USB input, but it didn't help. The keyboards work in the BIOS settings, and the keyboards works fine when I boot a Fedora DVD.

I was hoping to try Ubuntu, so any help would be appreciated.

Hi CommandLine!

As the keyboard is working on the Fedora bootable disk, its not very likely that its the keyboard..

it seems to be the downloaded image itself, do you still have it on the computer ?

please compare the md5 of the file to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes

this page should help you to check it..
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM

We'll wait for the Ubuntu Geniuses to Pitch in.

Thanks

That's a good idea. I'll double check when I get home tonight.

Same issue here, folks. Using an 18-month-old Dell Optiplex GX620. Stuck at language selection; neither server nor desktop installation CD for 8.04 seems not to see my (wired/factory) USB keyboard.

Have you found a way forward?

I suppose this is a new issue & the Ubuntu Geeks are probably trying to research on this to know what to do..

I have a similar problem. Every time I press Install, system hangs. I tried 7.10 and 8.04 64bits
