Hello all,

this has been doing my head-in for days now.

I was wondering if anyone knew a free web host? I want these features:

AT LEAST 1gb web-space
Php/mysql support
easy signup

Zymic has been counted out - not enough space and unreliable servers..

Cheers,
GCoffee.

If you have high speed internet you can make your own server. I've done it. It's about a 4 hour process if you don't know what you're doing.

I highly doubt you will be able to get those features from a free host.

I have considered this but there are numerous problems:

1) I only have 1 pc suitable for the job - my personal one
2) I can't leave it on 24/7 - holidays ETC
3) dynamic ip software for linux is limited..

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Maybe, but I would at least like to look.

No, you can get those features with x10 hosting -

http://x10hosting.com/

The only annoying part of x10 is that you have to log in to thier forums every 2 weeks, or your account gets suspended. You get a (10?) day grace period after that and then your account is completely terminated. They don't even bother to e-mail you if you are suspended or on the verge of termination - they expect you to actually visit your website and see the suspension notice there. It's sort of retarded, but I guess the features it offers for free make up for this huge downfall.

Sign up and enjoy. In the meantime try convincing them to e-mail the user a courtesy notice when they are suspended or on the verge of termination, PLEASE. (Yes, my account was terminated).

Whats wrong with paid hosting?

Also keep in mind that most ISP's don't allow internet hosting from home. If you only have a few visitors a day there won't be a problem, but the moment you get allot of visits they will shut your connection down.

In the and there infrastructure isn't made for this kind of purpose.

I host my own stuff and I also use http://hostmonster.com

Thumbs up on the hostmonster. You give them 100 bucks and they totally take care of you for 1 year.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I would just like to point out that I want links to free hosts!

BTW, forgot to mention, but I really need ad-free!

Cheers,
GCoffee.

You could try Freehostia (http://freehostia.com), but they automatically shut down all accounts after a year, for some odd reason. I think a paid host would be better

Yeah, hosting has become so dirt cheap these days that it's really not worth the hassle that free hosting requires (like the aforementioned forum post requirements, the occasional downtime, etc). I used to use whipanorbit on an old website. I think it's starter package is 3.95 a month. but hostmonster seems better if it has unlimited bandwith (and apparently postgresql AND ruby on rails, that's nice).

The reason I cannot use payed hosting is because I'm 11.

So, free hosting is my only option..

My thoughts exactly and even paid hosting doesn't need to be expansive.

Use x10hosting. It free and has an ad-free version. Just remember to log into their forums every 2 weeks.

000webhost (http://www.000webhost.com/56061.html) seems very good.
Check the comparison I made between some free hosting here (http://androidesroqueros.blogspot.com/2008/07/crea-tu-propia-pgina-web-gratuita.html).

Just wondered what you went with in the end? I am also after a free web host preferably with no adverts, not so bothered about storage size, just messing about with the basics at the moment learning my way around kompozer, which by the way seems pretty good :guitar:

x10 has an ads and ads-free version, but the two plans look virtually the same. What's the catch? Is there no suspension on the ads version?

Well, I could find a few ones that had a few google text ads in out of the way places. But there is next to no way for you to find one that has no ads. Sorry.

I was looking at them, but I don't know if you really can trust them. What do you think?

Have you tried this site yet:

http://www.free-webhosts.com/power-search.php

These were a few: http://www.free-webhosts.com/search-webhosts.php?ADV=000000000010000000000000000000000 00010000000

if you search through them, you might find one with the 1GB storage..... they all have PHP and mysql.
