Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add an entry for Windows:
backup first:
sudo cp /boot/grub/menu.lst /boot/grub/menu.lst.old
Edit:
gksudo gedit /boot/grob/menu.lst
title Vista
root (hd0,0)
savedefault
makeactive
chainloader + 1
save, exit and reboot.

this one was already in /boot/grob/menu.lst, when I add the one in the answer then restarted ubuntu, I get message the it should have an absolute path.
then window does not start.

If it was already in your menu.lst; you shouldn't add another entry. Take it out.
Post:
cat /boot/grub/menu.lst

If that doesn't work; try and see if you can boot Vista with Super Grub:
