I have just installed Ubuntu 8.04LTS on a dell inspiron 1525. Removed all partitions, just ubuntu running on it. The touchpad is getting really hot! The harddisk on the left of it, which is usually the area which used to be hot under windows, is absolutely OK. I dont understand what is making the touchpad so hot!

I am downloading updates right now....may be the updates may fix it?????

I am sure you have heard this before, but Targus makes a "Chillpad" that runs from usb and I used to have a laptop that was very hot all the time that I used it with. Dropped my temps like 15-20c!

I had this problem when running 32-bit hardy. When I installed the 64-bit version, my 1525 runs just as cool as it does in Vista.

Same thing as Sand Lee. Once I switched to 64-bit Ubuntu, it doesn't even get warm anymore

:-D

The touchpad doesn't get as hot as before for me. I'm not sure if that's accurate or I'm used to it. Not sure when that changed.

Is 64bit worth switching to?

Using Kernel 2.6.27-7-generic
Dell 1525N
Ubuntu 8.10
