if DVD+/-RW = Re Writable ...
Why is there DVD+/-R ? ...Wouldnt DVD+/-W be more appropriate?

Pre Written DVD's .. like movies etc should be DVD R (Readable) ... Blanks should be DVD W (Writable)..

because dvdr is recordable, its been that way since cd-r's, and everyone understands it, so why bother changing it now?

Aahhhhh Recordable is the word I couldnt think of. Either way you look at it tho, it really doesnt make much sense. But you're right .. its pretty much set in stone now.

It can be confusing if you sit in your terminal too long chmod'ing files :D
