Just a different background that goes with the color scheme better, from my previous post #13 in this thread.

BTW, I love the Gion icon theme! And it comes straight from the repository, so no third party question marks. In particular, I like the Evolution and FF3.0 icons that Gion uses.

Just asking:)

With the lack of input redirection, it's still only good for looks, but it's a lot more stable and smooth now and also does scaling. Once SmSpillaz picked up the project, it really got a lot better. Still has its share of bugs, though, and again, without input redirection it's really just a gimmick. I can say from experience it's nice to have while watching videos and such when combined with the Ghost plugin (which disables input on "ghosted" windows).

I used the glossy window borders and changed the colors of the windows and selected items to be shades of green and used a picture that I took years ago as the background and set the background of the 3 panels to be a 1 pixel wide gradient that I had made in GIMP and . The icons are Crystal SVG, but I made some slight modifications using GIMP to the three shortcuts on the desktop.

Very nice! I like bright, or light-colored desktops. The dark themes are cool to look at in threads like these, but I can't actually work in a dark theme for very long. Hard on the eyes, and brings my spirit down.

BTW, my themes are on pages 2 and 3 of this thread. Pretty basic, no third-party components except mazza's panel background and my own photos for wallpapers. Easy on the eyes and on the spirit.

Jasper now does text, I've modified my theme to fit.

The buttons on the side seem a bit silly to me (maybe on a widescreen monitor they'd make more sense). The program name being on the same line as the menu is awesome! How does that work? Is it just a simple overlay, or is it editing GTK stuff to make room?

The buttons on the side seem a bit silly to me (maybe on a widescreen monitor they'd make more sense). The program name being on the same line as the menu is awesome! How does that work? Is it just a simple overlay, or is it editing GTK stuff to make room?

Jasper can draw anywhere on a window (See the corners? Had to literally cut a hole out of them so that they would look right), so it was just a simple matter of finding a good font size that fit into the menu and writing up the theme. All standard monitors are wider than they are tall, so having buttons on the sides is almost always a more efficient use of screen space. I'll be moving window titles for inactive windows over there and making the buttons smaller as soon as I can.

Sounds cool. I realize 4:3 is still wider than it is tall, but websites don't. My laptop resolution is only 1024x768, so I need them on top (rather scroll down than over... or both). I may try this on my desktop, though (1600x1200).

I think commenting it out just removes the tasklist from the statusbar.

The iconbox was in the default 2.3 setup:

iconbox logo

image = "/usr/local/share/awesome/icons/awesome16.png"

That would be globalmenu2. If you're using Ubuntu there are straight .debs for it here.

Well, partially out of necessity, I took the plunge into Openbox/Fluxbox today (my new Linux box is a Celeron 900mhz/256mb RAM).

There are a few guides that I have found to help learn how to customize it.

Do any of you guys/gals running it have any suggestions or how-tos to point me to? I am having a the damndest time even getting wallpaper to work.

So thanks to Elmer42, I found a nice little how-to.

I got a background using FEH. Now to figure out getting that background to stick around on restart.

Look out for many screenshots this month as I play with the boxes..

I was told that Compiz Fusion doesn't work with this version of X.org... and also that 3D won't work... and they both do, has something happened that I don't know about, or was I lied to?

the theme is Cyclism, gtk theme Mist-sage, tint

The wallpaper is an old picture of me and my buddies, from back then when the internets weren't invented.

I do it by hand with an sh script:

#!/bin/sh
#Colors
blue="\033[1;34m"
green="\033[1;32m"
cyan="\033[1;36m"
red="\033[1;31m"
bblue="\033[0;38;5;12m"
orange="\033[0;38;5;130m"

#bold
bold="\033[00m"

#End
end="\033[0m"

echo " "
echo "\n"
echo $bblue" Ubuntu 7.04 $end"
echo " "
#echo $orange" Openbox: $end Custom $end"
echo $orange" Gtk: $end MurrinaAurantium"
echo $orange" Icons: $end Crashbit"

#echo $orange" Apps: $end Pidgin Screenlet, Pypanel "
#echo " Quod Libet, Thunar, ttm "
echo " "

How did tint show up in itself?

Tint became self-aware at 9:45pm EDT, 6 June 2008 :mad:

...or I was editing the configuration file and I guess I had the .configuration/tint folder opened :)
