Okay i installed my Compiz-fusion and enabled my nVidia drivers.

But i have no desktop effects (that i can see) and i turned it onto the max settings.

I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 and using KDE 3.5

You need to enable compiz. try alt+f2 then "compiz -replace" (without the quotes).

you right-click on the compiz-fusion icon in the notification-tray of the panel and do Select Window Manager -> Compiz

it should be equivalent to compize -replace as mentioned by the previous post, but I found it to behave differently.
