I'm running Hardy, and I recently managed to fill my root partition up, which of course caused problems. Deleting stuff from the drive took care of that. But since then, my wife's user account's had some weird trouble.

Every time she attempts to log on, she is greeted by a beige screen and a cursor that responds to mouse movements. But then nothing happens. No desktop, no menu bar, no error message, nothing. Just a beige screen and the opportunity to move the cursor around endlessly. Pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspc takes her back to the login screen, and then the process repeats itself.

This problem has not shown up on my own (root) account, nor on my son's account whose parameters are identical to those of my wife's. Logging onto my own account, I can browse through my wife's file folders, and everything looks fine.

It's a Dell Dimension 4550, a middle-of-the-road stationary machine from 2004 or 2005.

I have had that on 7.10, but it fixed itself on a reboot.
