8.04 Installing: CD boots up but screen goes. black

I want to install 8.04 Ubuntu or maybe Xubuntu. Installing 7.04 works. When I try to install 8.04 from CD this is what happens: The CD boots up and I see the options to install or run from Live CD, etc. When I choose Install, I see a loading bar that shows loading progress, then it finishes loading, the screen blinks a couple times and turns off completely. Doesn't just go black, Im pretty sure its completely off. Its sort like when you choose in XP for the screen to go off after :(a certain amount of time. I have a Gateway E-265M Laptop.

First, have you checked the integrity of your Ubuntu CD by running the verification function that is found on the initial boot screen menu ?

Second, have you tried booting in the safe graphics mode.

No I haven't. If the 7.10 to 8.04 upgrade won't work, then I will try from the cd. Thanks.
