Set a Guinness World Record
Enjoy a Better Web

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours - it’s that easy. We're not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

By the way, the official date for the launch of Firefox 3 will be posted here soon - so check back! Join our community and this effort by pledging today.

So I was wondering...obviously us Ubuntu people will be getting the final version of Firefox 3 from the repositories. There has to be some sort of way the repositories can be set up to download straight from the mozilla servers, just so we can help with the download day. If there's millions of us users that would probably boost their numbers a lot.

Anyone agree? Is this even possible? Discuss.

@Potrick:
You can download the browser from mozilla.org if you want to, even if you are using Linux:-)

Just download it, you don't have to install it. That way your repo install counts.

Only if you take that stupid licence agreement out peoples face when they download it, it's even in Linux now,

Its not about that, its about if every Hardy user that decided to upgrade to FF3, automatically got it from the Mozilla servers, then they would get a much better result.

well, what methods r they using for counting the no of downloads?
is it going to be just server downloads? or will upgrades from beta, bittorrent sites, etc, also be counted?

This is the 1st time that I've heard somebody asking u to download their product, even though u might not install it!!!!

Maybe, its just a way to get media attention and they overtake Opera(which was the 1st to pass the acid test- 100%) and Safari( which was forced upon iTunes users by Apple, as an upgrade). Frankly, I find this to be a silly & stupid idea. I believe that a good product can and will sell itself. Are Mozilla peole hearing me??

People here is a great chance to spread the word about Mozilla Firefox, the open source web-browser.

Al you have to do is to pledge that you are going to participate in the "event" and download Mozilla Firefox 3 on the same day that it is realesed.

Download Day is an attempt to set a world record for the most software downloads in 24 hours and will occur on Firefox 3 launch day.

For more information about this, see the following links:

English (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord)

Spanish (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/es-ES/worldrecord/)

Japanese (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/ja/worldrecord)

French (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/ja/worldrecord)

FAQ (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/faq)

How can I help, other than downloading Firefox 3?

The best thing to do is spread the word about Download Day – tell your mom, your neighbors, your colleagues – anyone and everyone!
Here are a few other ways to help as we move towards the finish line:

* Plan an impromptu Download Fes (http://www.mozillaparty.com/)t at your school, office, or home - anywhere with an Internet connection. Or, attend a Firefox 3 gathering (http://www.mozillaparty.com/).
* Join one of the following social networking groups (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/en-US/worldrecord/getinvolved) and invite all your friends.
* Find your Firefox Campus Rep (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/campusreps) and see how you can help today or what festivities you can join.
* Add our buttons or banner (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/campusreps)s to your site, blog, or profile.

Can we download more than one copy of Firefox per computer?

No, please play nice and only download one copy of Firefox per computer. We ask that you refrain from creating download bots or any other mechanism that would be cheating. In order for our attempt to be legitimate, each download must be human initiated.

What qualifies as an official download of Firefox?

A "download" is the transmission of the entire, fully functioning Firefox 3--not an update.

Will I be able to find this record on the Guinness website or in the printed version of the book?

We hope so! Guinness World Records™ receives many record attempt requests and can't accommodate everyone. Let's catch their eye by working to make this a spectacular record with millions of downloads and great, zany Download Fests.

North Korea has the internet. I'm sure some foreign diplomats and/or journalists use it at least.

I think that ubuntu firefox3 logo is bordering on spam. As for Firefox -- yea I use it -- but it aint the precious jewel it used to be when it was Firebird.

Thank you Dr. Small for the script code, but I believe that we should not cheat by downloading multiple times. I am afraid the Mozilla team will be disqualified if we do so.

Let us be more honest.
If you read the frequently asked question, ye will see clearly that it states one download per person.

This is a great opportunity for Mozilla and OpenSource. If Firefox is presented in the Guinness W. Record, then more people will be aware of this web browser, and many may have the curiosity enough to find out that Mozilla Firefox is an OpenSource software. Perhaps some will switch to GNU/Linux!

I am stating the obvious of course, we all know that in this community.

I don't know how it will run in Ubuntu Linux, but in my Windows Vista Mozilla Firefox 3 Release Candidate (RC) works beautifully. I feel in love with Firefox 3!! Its fast, its stable, and it has such a nice new feautures.
