I just got ubuntu and i love it. I cannot upgrade however. Whenever i press upgrade or check for updates i get the following error message.

Could not download all repository indexes

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

I have been searching for days for the answer to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Anthony

I see your sources say Edgy, any reason you're not using Gutsy or Heron 8.10?

Edit: Support for Edgy 6.10 has stopped.

As written by perlluver (You're download site still linked with Edgy: http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/edgy-security), Support for Edgy 6.10 had ceased.
Why not try using Gutsy or Hardy, this way you can catch up with recent updates and patches.

My boot disc has Edgy. I have no cd-r's to make a fresh disc. Can you make it with a dvd-r?

edit: Im downloading the iso image now. Can I mount it with ubuntu to upgrade?

Try burning it on your DVD-R media, it's just the same. Just wasting space :)

ok Ill try that. Also if i try to upgrade through upgrade manager it says authentication failed. The error message is: Authentication failed

Authenticating the upgrade failed. There may be a problem with the network or with the server.

Is this also because Edgy isn't supported, or is it something else?

Use the command gpg on your terminal and then press Ctrl+C and start the install process again.
For the upgrade, try to use the Alternate CD instead and not the Desktop LiveCD.

I looked and actually did download the alternate CD instead of the live CD.

Thanks for the help.
