at least on my pc. Today it has happened more than normally. It only happens when navigating to Ubuntu Forums from a previous web page. The screen will start to dim and then all of a sudden it is not responding and I have to force quit.

Does this only happen to me? I have not noticed this problem with any other website or forum other than Ubuntu.

Now I have HH but do not use it often, (usb stick) but I do not think it happens in Firefox 3.

Could it be that enormous user list at the bottom?

WOW, I never really looked at that. Does anyone? Why not unpublish that module?

Per my OP, it never crashes once it opens, it is only on arrival and is rather annoying.

I've had the occasional freeze on FireFox but haven't noticed any pattern that would connect it to the forums. I had a freeze a few minutes ago navigating to my ISP's page to check my ADSL badnwith usage.

Firefox used to freeze (for me at least) because of the user list. It would also freeze on the comments section of ESPN.com

I downloaded firefox directly from mozilla.com (I just have a firefox folder within my home folder) and the problem went away. Must have been something with the ubuntu version of firefox. Whatever.

Firefox did that for me when I visited the forums too. Clicking the [-] box beside the user list made it not load and solved my problem.

Thanks for the tip.

On Hardy, I do not have that problem, I have found FF3 to be an improvement, despite having the missing forward and back buttons but got that resolved.

Yeah this happened sometimes in Debian Etch, but hasn't happened yet in Hardy.

What page are you navigating from?
If you navigate here from gmail, it would crash. Whenever I closed or navigated away from gmail (with Firefox 2) it would freeze up or crash.
