I am going to install Ubuntu later today and would like to format my filesystem as an ext4 partition. Is it possible using the stock 8.04 disc? If not then does the alternate installation provide this functionality?

I haven't seen it. Maybe with a future release.

'The filesystem is currently marked as developmental and is titled "ext4dev"[5]. It is considered unstable and hence is not recommended for use it in production enviroments, since data corruption is possible in this early stage of development.'

I am not using this in a production environment and fedora already has the ability to install on an ext4 partition. I figured since it has been in the kernel for a while all I need is to be able to format to ext4 and go.
