I am using Mandriva which has KDE 3.5. I love it, it's really fast and seems to be stable.

The problem I am having is that all of a sudden the boot proccess is very slow during a stage where on the screen it says "loading window manager".

I have a Quad Core x64 intel (core 2 extreme), nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX and two monitors using twinview with extended desktop with Compiz. Like I said everything works fine, but the boot is very slow during that phase.

Another thing that happens is that the computer freezes up after the screen saver kicks in.

Any suggestions on how to solve these two problems?

Thanks.

Why do you say boot is slow during "loading window manager"? How long does it take?

It is a long process. KDE 3.5 has to start its daemons, load up the toolkit and libraries into memory. Processor and graphics card don't help this step much.

Is it like saying when going from Europe to the US, the aircraft flies very slow over the Atlantic? Atlantic is huge.
