View Full Version : Which MSN client do you use?

I still can't decide which client to use.

At this moment in time, I am using emesene.
I like it :)
I love the GUI of it. Nice and clean.
Yes, there are a lot of things to be worked on but in the future. I'm sure it will be a very good client :)

I used to use pidgin but it lacked the features of msn. It never had the personal messages.. etc.

What client do you use and why?

Thanks,
Tom :)

Pidgin. I tried emesene but there was some things I don't like about it. In a chat windows everyone's name is the same color and it's hard to tell people apart. It has no /me feature also.

Mercury Messenger. Has a lot of features (including webcam, personal messages, the option to display the song you're listening, etc).

I also like emesene, but I prefer Mercury.

Emesene, but I find it very annoying that there isn't a "START MINIMIZED!" option. I only use Skype and MSN so there's no need for me to use Pidgin. Maybe I'll try aMSN

I use Pidgin for IRC, AIM, and MSN. But I despise MSN and AIM and would much rather use my own IM protocol - which is why I'm making a new client for it.

I use Pidgin because a lot of my friends also use AIM, Gtalk, and Yahoo as well as MSN. I use it on Windows too :)

Emesene. Looks nice, and does everything I need. aMSN does a little more, but I don't need any of the features, and it's an eyesore. Pidgin would be ideal if I used other protocols, but I don't.

In a chat windows everyone's name is the same color and it's hard to tell people apart. It has no /me feature also.

Both those are available. To get different colored names, switch the conversation format to Pidgin. Using /me is a plug-in. I don't remember which one, but I can definitely use it.

The /me command etc is a plugin called Commands in emesene :)

Cool. Didn't know about the /me plugin. But changing the conversation format to Pidgin only changes the colors when you're talking with 1 other person. If you're in a chat with multiple people, everyone is the same color.

Emesene.
Got it the other week and LOVED it!
Much better than kopete for many reasons.
Especially the offline messaging, I missed that.

lol, i have noticed some things lately
instead of using the microsoft operating system, linux users choose to use the microsoft instant messaging protocol instead
now, with the help of sync from microsoft, not only can your computer get viruses, but now so can your car.

i use pidgin, because in total i have to have about 12 protocols in order to IM all my friends and associates.

Emesene :D (Only think I don't like is chat window options, I cant get ride of the damn timestamp, and the colors are the same!)

Use gAIM at work, its decent but very ugly and boring.

use to use aMSN but it just seems unstable and slow.

I use aMSN because it was the first one I heard about after finding Pidgin frustrating. I've recently found out about emesene and I think I'd prefer it for the way it fits into GNOME, but I haven't tried it yet.

For using msn with my webcam I use aMSN, but I like the feel of emesene better, BUT when I just need to talk to people I use bitlbee + mIRC on wine

(for those who are xchat zealots respect me please???)

alright bitlbee is a ircd deamon that allows you to connect to the MSN (and more) protocols via your favorite IRC client, I just like it better... I actually like using MSN this way

I am using emesene, for no real reason other than I like the look. I don't use enough of MSN's features (drawing, webcams, etc) to require anything more than a basic client.

emesene and amsn are joining. I think. They are making amsn2 :) Written in python I think :D

Will be good onced finished.

currently emesene.

been unsing kmess = buggs alot
amsn = fine, but suddenly stopped working and i wasnt in the mood of fixing it, also looking for a new lient.

ups and down with emsene: uses system colors, wich i dont like. i prefer modifying my own look. not sure if its possible, i havent looked around much in it yet but havent found anything to modify it with.

an other "down" with emesene is the bloody sending.. goes so slow its killing me. allthough with rapidshare and imagehack, its all fine=)

pidgid is to boring and has few of the new live msn features like personal message.

emesene ftw! (after 18hour use lol)

IDK if I a;ready posted here (lol), but I use Kopete on my main computer because it's good, multiprotocol, and it's part of KDE (which I use). I use Pidgin on my Laptop because I don't wanna install a bunch of KDE crap on it :-P And Pidgin is good too.

Pidgin. I have friends across a range of protocols. However, I'm not a frequent Instant Messenger, so the default app is fine by me.
