You need the vmware-any-any patch 1.1.6 for the newer kernel, the answer is in the forums

ALright and would you happen to have a link?

I searched for vmmon

You need a patch for the VMware source code. I recommend following the instructions at:

http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2008/05/03/install-vmware-server-105-on-ubuntu-804-hardy/

From the page HalPomeranz references

tar xf vmware-any-any-update-116.tgz
cd vmware-any-any-update116
sudo ./runme.pl

Did so and got:

tar: vmware-any-any-update-116.tgz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
cody@nilsolaris:~/vmware/vmware-server-distrib$ cd vmware-any-any-update116
bash: cd: vmware-any-any-update116: No such file or directory

Alright i suppose this would be a better question... where should i place vmware-any-any-update-116.tgz in order to run it. (Again i apologize, new to linux, learning hands on)

If you downloaded the application from Firefox then it's on your Desktop

cd ~/Desktop

Then follow along the rest, tar xfvz, etc
