After months of messing around with ubuntu, I decided that I really prefer the look and feel of the gnome desktop. However, I have also taken the position that I should use the best application for my needs regardless if it is kde or gnome. Consequently, I have found myself using a number of kde apps on a regular basis (KMyMoney, Amarok, DigiKam).

I am wondering if anyone else has this setup and if they have experienced any problems other than minor issues (long load times, etc.)

You won't encounter any problems. You may have to load the KDE libraries, giving, as you said, slowing loading times, but other than that, you're fine. There are actually many people who don't run *any* libraries at all, either GNOME or KDE, as they only use apps that don't require either of those libraries.

This thread might help http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=841830&highlight=kde+apps+gnome

I installed Ubuntu because I need to use Ubuntu Studio which I installed from Synaptic into Ubuntu 8.04. Then I installed KDE because I like using Gnome but I also need some of the things only KDE has. Krusader and Amarok and all the extra menus that Gnome doesn't have because Gnome is suppose to protect the system more from the user.

There's a personal reason I use Gnome most of the time too. To Me KDE "looks" way too much like windblows and OS X.
