Does Ubuntu use the original Linux Kernel or else....

I heard recently that all Linux distros including Ubuntu, use their own modified Kernel!!:shock: Is it true? If yes, Why?

why can't they use they original Kernel as it is? What's the problem?

Most distros including Ubuntu don't use the vanilla (original) Linux kernel. They patch it up to add extra features e.g. hardware support, experimental features etc, or just so that it fits in with the way they build their distro. Some distros offer an option as to whether you use their own kernel or the vanilla kernel.

Yes its true, most distros modify the kernel to their own needs and this includes ubuntu.
Granted there is actually nothing wrong with using the unmodified kernel but most distros like to tweak it to make their distro unique.
Its all because of Linux's position of being open source, while the windows and apple kernels are locked down and all modifications dis allowed under some stupid EULA linux is free to modify and redistribute...
Same with the BSD kernel, everyone is allowed to modify it for their own personal needs.
