Hello,

I've been successfully running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) on my Acer Aspire 5630 for some time now. Having recently purchased an Acer Aspire desktop model, I'd like to dual boot with the existing Vista installation as I now have XP running on the laptop. I'm doing my CompTIA A+ so it's beneficial for me to have all three systems available.

The problem is, the desktop system uses Sis Mirage 3+ graphics and Ubuntu (in live CD mode anyway) wont set the correct resolution for my monitor (which is 1440 x 1050 I think.) I had a similar issue when I first installed Ubuntu (Fawn) on the laptop, but the Gutsy installation corrected the issue.

Is there is driver available for download or will updating to Hardy make a difference?

First try using Hardy Heron, there may be an improvement. I don't think there are and proper SiS drivers at the moment(I am ignorant about SiS), so your best bet would be to try Ubuntu 8.04.
