View Full Version : [all variants] Live CD Bootup Crash (2.6.24 kernel ?)

I am attempting to run Ubuntu / Xubuntu 8.04 from a live CD on a Toshiba M35X-S149. After bootup of Ubuntu, I see the normal upper and lower panels when the system shuts off. For Xubuntu, the fonts for the top panel shown are huge (about an inch high), then the system crashes.

Could this be due to the 2.6.24 kernel ? I am running 8.04 on my laptop at this time (upgraded over the Net from 7.10 -> 7.04 -> ...). I installed the Ubuntu Studio packages some time back when I found its kernel to have problems, so I typically run the 2.6.20 kernel.

I have found this problem on some other linux live cds, which I am trying to create for demonstration uses or for running of a machine I cannot install Linux on.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance ...

Sean

256 MB of RAM or less>Xubuntu Alternate CD.

My system has 784 MB of RAM. I was thinking it was the kernel because Xubuntu 6.06 worked as a live CD, as does SAM Linux and Wolvix.
