installing probs

I have wanted to try a different OS for a long time, ubuntu was recommended so here i am.

I have downloaded and burnt the image at fastest and slowest speed, rebooted the pc and the installtion start by asking what lauguage. It then goes to what to install, i ask for the hard drive install as opposed to the tour type of install.

I then get an I/O error msg, error reading boot cd 'reboot'

The cd is readable in XP

can anyone help

Do md5sum, burn at 4x or less on CD-R, check CD integrity before install.
