Hello,

My shiny old car has small lcd display (up to ~20 characters).

I was thinking about assembling small computer. Let's say cheap routerboard with some better lcd, but there is a question: how I could monitor car indicators/subsystems like speedometer, tachometer,... on linux?

Hmmm, I need to create small electronic boards which will calculate values from car subsystems then connect them all to other electronic board that will send data through serial port to computer?

Anyone has done this?

Thanks :)

You need to interface with OBDII: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OBDII
I think you can get OBDII to usb/serial adapters.

I did. It's worth every penny if you're serious about installing a car PC in your dash.
