I am in process of selecting a laptop as my mainstream development station.
I will be mobile for some month and I need to have a brand new and capable laptop.
So far, I found following offers to be suitable
DELL Latitude D830 and Lenovo T61. common features are as follow but lenovo will have 14.1" screen and dell will has 15.4'' Widescreen WSXGA+.

Intel Core2 Duo 2.5 GHZ
CASH 6 mb
RAM 2 GB DDRII
H.D.D 160++
DVD+/-RW
NVidia NVS140 (256 dedicated mem)

Which one is better to choose, I will use the laptop for developing J2EE applications, It should be able to run and IDE, a Database, A database management tools.

What do you suggest? do you think some other brands or model can be better?

Get both, try them out, and send the one you don't like to me.

For a developer? Intel Graphics would be better. A smaller hard drive with 320-500GB external.

It also depends on what you like; I wanted a smaller laptop, so I have a 14.1" screen. Some people like bigger screens, but portability is more valuable to me.

_personally_ I would go with the Thinkpad, but both are quality machines and should last you and serve any purpose. I would base my decision on screen size/battery life if you are still undecided

You can't match the build quality of a thinkpad.
