Good internet security application?

My dad is always bothering me about downloading torrents. Saying he doesn't like me not having any security feature on my computer to prevent hackers from getting into our network. Anyway I use Deluge, does deluge have any features for that or can I download something good?

BTW I use Hardy.

Why not use vpn it will hide your ip while you download torrents.
